Josh’s House has recently been announced as the 2014 winner of the National Housing Industry Association (HIA) GreenSmart Award for Water Efficiency.
GreenSmart has been the HIA’s flagship environmental program since 1999. It allows Australia’s building industry to improve efficiency and reduce waste in the construction of homes leaving a legacy of safer more sustainable homes for the occupants into the future.
The winners of the 2014 HIA GreenSmart Awards were applauded for outstanding workmanship, design and innovation in sustainability and the comments on Josh’s House were:
The house is a first rate example of a resource efficient home featuring high efficiency shower heads, tap ware and appliances. Low volume dual flush toilets have integrated hand basins which use the water from the basin to fill the cistern. The house has a direct diversion grey water system to provide irrigation to the garden and a rainwater tank for all internal use.”
Announced on Wednesday 22 October, the 2014 National GreenSmart Awards event is the first time the event has been delivered purely online, allowing HIA to increase the reach of the awards and hopefully introducing the GreenSmart principles to an even wider audience.
The Josh’s House total integrated water system approach has led to a 92% reduction in scheme water use in comparison to the average Perth home, well in excess of the original 60% design criteria. This equates to an annual saving of $542.15.
